About UIXHERO

Explaining why an interface works.

Whether a screen works is not a matter of taste. Attention, memory, decision-making, habit: once you know how each of these behaves, a design call stops being a preference and becomes something you can repeat, explain and hand to someone else.

UIXHERO exists to increase the number of design decisions you can make that way, and to keep each one in a form you can actually use on a real screen, against a real deadline.

What this site covers

UX principles and psychology

Cognitive bias, perception, how people decide.

Information architecture

Structure that removes hesitation: what goes where, in what order, and what gets priority.

Criteria for judging a UI

What to look at when you review a screen, where to start improving, and how to say what is wrong.

Design systems

Tokens and component design, and keeping both alive once a team depends on them.

Where to start

The English pages are a smaller selection than the Japanese ones. Start with the English index and read whichever reference entry matches the question in front of you. The entries are written to be read out of order, like a dictionary.

Then read the articles. They put the same ideas to work on real screens.

Getting in touch

Questions about anything written here, a second opinion on a review, or a screen you want to think through out loud: all welcome. Write to dgys@uixhero.com.
